The Mens and Womens basketball teams began the USCAA Championship week claiming several awards. Sophomore guard Whitney Newsome began the collection of awards by winning the women's 3-point contest on tuesday afternoon. In the championship round of the 3-point contest, Newsome started out slowly before getting hot on her final 3 racks to run away with the title of best long range shooter in the country.Tuesday evening saw the Warriors garner several Academic and All-American honors. Starting the string of awards was Senior Jackie Stienacker, who was honored with Academic All-America for her efforts in the classroom. Her teammates Jessica Crook and Sam Tamaschko were named 1st team All-America for their demonstrated skills on the basketball court. Two warrior men were also honored. Senior guard Michael Graham was named All-American Honorable mention and Junior Ricky Doran was named 1st team All-America.

The Warrior men begin tournament play on Wednesday with a 3:15 pm match-up with Spalding University. The Lady Warriors will begin their tournament run on Thursday. Stayed tuned to www.theuscaa.com to watch the games live on your computer.
