On Wednesday, April 11, Rochester College head basketball coach Klint Pleasant announced the signing of Stavros Schizas.
Schizas, a native of Athens, Greece joins the 2012 National Runner-up Warriors as they look to build on their recent success.
Schizas enjoyed a stellar freshman and sophomore year at Kirtland Community College under the guidance of head coach Ty McGregor. His honors included two time All-Conference, two time All Defense, and two time Michigan Community College Athletic Association All Star honors.
"We've been recruiting Stavros for 2 years and have worked pretty hard to get him and we're very excited that he has made the decision to attend Rochester College," said head coach Klint Pleasant. "I feel like Stavros is a Rochester College type player in that he plays hard, he defends, and he is a team first guy. He can do some special things on the floor. He can score inside, he can score outside, he shoot's the ball well, and handles the ball well."
As a two-year captain at Kirtland, Schizas led the Firebirds to two of the programs most successful seasons by averaging 14.8 points and 5.5 rebounds per game. He also shot 78% from the free throw line.
"Stavros comes from a successful junior college program that I believe is well coached. On his visit he really felt comfortable, he liked the way we played, and he connected with our returning players very quickly. We believe Stavros is going to be a great addition to our program for the next two years," said Pleasant.
