ROCHESTER HILLS, MICH- The Rochester College Baseball squad gears up for their second straight Small College World Series appearance, this year located in Springfield, Illinois. Senior Alex Hacias (Sterling Heights. MI/Macomb CC) leads the Warriors as the third seed in a field of ten.

The United States Collegiate Athletic Association (USCAA) unveiled the 2012 Small College World Series field yesterday, May 1. Rochester College earned their second straight appearance under head coach Jordan Ackerman, in only his fourth year at the helm. The Warriors earned themselves a first round bye as the third overall seed, and will open up tournament play on May 7, against Penn State- Mont Alto at 6:30 PM. The tournament is being hosted by Robert Morris University- Springfield, and will be played at Robin Roberts Stadium in Springfield, Illinois.

Tournament play officially opens up on May 7, at 8:30 am. The teams will partake in a homerun derby on May 6, before gameplay opens up. Spalding University out of Kentucky and The Apprentice School, located in Virginia, captured the two top seeds in the tournament ahead of Rochester College.

Hacias leads Rochester College in several offensive categories going into post-season play, including batting average (.436), hits (61), RBIs (37), and bases on balls (22). Hacias set the school record on Senior Day, April 22, for most hits in a single season. Senior Captain Ryan Chipka (Waterville, OH/Anthony Wayne) enters the post season batting .325 and has batted in 30 runs, good for second on the team. David Woodson (Vallejo, CA/Vallejo) leads the Warriors with 18 extra base hits in the regular season (11 doubles, 5 triples, and a homerun).

The Warriors will open up on Monday at 6:30pm against PSUAC Champion Penn State Mont Alto (18-9).
