The Rochester College basketball teams are in route to Uniontown, PA to compete for the USCAA National Championship. Both the men's and women's teams finished their respected seasons with successful records. At both ends of the spectrum, men's head coach Garth Pleasant
in his 38th season and women's head coach Eric Sims
in his 1st season look to win a National Championship.
The men's basketball team finished the regular season with a 23-7 record and maintained the number one ranking throughout the second half of the season. Playing teams like NCAA Division I Kent State University, Oakland University, and Eastern Michigan University, the Warriors are capable of competing with any team that is brought before them.
The Warriors received a solid performance day in and day out from senior Michael Graham
(Canton, MI/Plymouth-Canton) who finished the season with 438 points, giving him an average of 14.6 points per game. Graham scored 18 points against Oakland University but his season high came against Great Lakes Christian when he scored 32 points. The Warriors also received top notch performances out of junior Ricky Doran
(Clinton Twp., MI/Chippewa Valley) who averaged 13.9 points and 8 rebounds a game. Doran's season high came against Great Lakes Christian when he scored 22 points.
The men's team open up against Spalding University on Wednesday at 3:15. The Golden Eagles finished the season 16-9 and are led by junior DeWhon McAfee who is averaging 19.27 points per game.
The Lady Warriors worked their way to the top of the USCAA rankings by upsetting schools like Spring Arbor University, Alma College, and Adrian College in route to a 19-9 record. At the conclusion of the regular season, the Lady Warriors are ranked 2nd.
The Lady Warriors were paced throughout the season by senior Jessica Crook
(Warren, MI/Lincoln). Crook averaged 12.7 points per game.
The Lady Warriors also received phenomenal play out of sophomore forward Sam Tomaschko
(Romeo, MI/Romeo). Tomaschko scored 283 points on the season, averaging 10.1 points per game and an amazing 10.1 rebounds per game. Senior Kelly Burton
(Brown City, MI/Brown City) was among the Warrior scoring leaders by scoring 302 points on the year giving her a 10.1 points per game average.
The Lady Warriors look to return to the National Championship where they fell short in the title game last season. The opening game for the Lady Warriors is on Thursday at 5pm when they play the winner of Penn State-Beaver/Apprentice College.
